If you like hairy racing get yourself up to the old town of Gilpin, Colorado, near Rollinsville and watch the machines running on ice. Yes, I said
ice! Two and three wheeled mounted riders compete on a sanded' oval which
is fine except when they get oli the sand. Then they slide and slide, ending
either upright or otherwise! Harry's Roamers M.C. of Denver sponsored the
event.
The small bikes did just fine but, oh, those big ones, especially when
they put on the outriggers--then they moved but fast.
Twenty-six riders signed up and put on a good show for the many spectators that came ou t in the bi tter cold.
Wayne McFetridge not only carried of/ the first place tropby in the open
class but took first again in the three wbeel event. Tbe last lap be bad to
hold the front outrigger brace as it had broken away from its fastening!
Jerry Capesius took honors in two events: third in the 201-25Qcc class and
second in tbe tbree wbeel event.
