ELSINORE NITE LIFE By Don Wallen The New Year's first race at Elsinore turned out to be, by far, the most for all concerned. Owner Tom Paschal has improved the facilities with lots of new lights, a brand-new registration booth, 2-story press stand and a P .A. system. In addition, Bill Smith, BSA-Western employee, did his first stint of announcing this past Saturday night at Elsinore, as he will in the future. The riders were treated to a bonus of jumbo 'Sweepstakes type" trophies for winners of all classes. BA.CKWARD SWEEPSTAKES175 BEATS 650 No one knew in advance that the Sweeps were to be run in the opposite direction around the track. A large field of riders made the Sweeps and it was humorous to see the eJq)ressions on their faces as the starter lined them up the· wrong" way! Small hikes were given a 50-yard head start and in this race were promptly overtaken by riders like Miller Harper, Triumph mounted, who eventually got 2nd place and D. Hensley. on a Montesa who had to push very hard to h9ld off Harper. 350 NOVICE MOTO This bash will long be remembered in view of seeing the winner, W. CUrtis. Honda mounted, capture this event and his other Mota, placing well UP in the Sweeps. The reason this is so noteworthy is Curtis has been a regular Elsinore rider for around six months on another machine. running well back in the field most of the time. This change of mount turned the trick for Curtis, a very haPPY fellow indeed. He was chased by J. Adolph riding a Honda to second place and J. Walker on a Honda. 100 EXPERT MOTO These small bikes never cease to amaze us all. Quite a show they put on especially at Elsinore where, because of a relatively tight course, they seem to be going about as fast as any. In the race S. Rogers, Honda mounted. took the lead on the 3rd lap from D. Hensley. never to be headed. This youngster says the track is really' boss". An interesting ride was put on by M. Harper on a Suzuki. He usually rides a 40 inch Triumph. Harper says it was a fun ride all the way. (Results on page 16) DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS Photo-Story By Ray Warner There must have been at least two hundred fuu riders - mea, women, and childrea - blasting around the dirt hills and trails of tbe Dominguez Hills riding area the day after Christmas. l,"'tl'.' .... .,~ ....... ,"""'"" ,~ I \ ..
