two half-milers In the west. This is
about the only fact that is a repeat from
a ye a r ago.
The '66 Ascot haU mile season was
perbaps the greatest of all from an overall standpoint of balanced competition.
Tanner was again top do g but only won
one third of the main events.
For the first time ever in local halfmile circles, two fi rst year experts broke

into the win column. Ch ris Oraayer and

Yea r" in the AMA were the two .
Another lirst came when not one. but
two . out-or-state experts -'1)0 feature
evears, The wins came back to back on
two straight Friday nights when Bart
Markel and Gary Sixon turned back th e
locals.
