..... CI> ~ • .. u y . PERRIS PUTS ONE Far loft All tho klnls cycles and all lIlo kine's men couldn't lot Jim Huntor lolnl In tim.. . By Maureen Lee The Riverside Bombers hos ted at Perris Sunday on one of the prettiest days for racing in many a month. Bang Bang, They Shot Jim Down There was quite a hit of excitement. As we mentioned in the latest Scramblin' Around column, Jim Hunter was going to ride (pinned leg and all) to try and keep his points up for that • barely-bangingon-to-first-place-number-plate. Come !be Iirst 5GO beaL and Jim won bls IIlce going away. Up came Larry By Ree Sbeldrick The 3rd heat of the 650's went off. Two and a half laps later, one rider goes down. Five machines rOBr by him, the rider remounts, takes careful aim and shuts down the field to take the win by a tire width. Man "that's racing'" skillfully done by one Sid Payne. Guest of the Silver City SCramblers And the final note - Dec.U - Vegas Valley M.C. annual SO. Nevada T.T. for this Sunday's scrambles and riding for tbe fun of it, Sid demonstrated his SCrambles championship. Many of Sunability a little more in a special sweepdays riders sald they would be uP for stakes race for 250cc uP. this. The track layout is changed more to an Ascot pattern. If you dido't ride Started in the last row behiod the top the last race at this track, come on up riders and winners of the Nov., Am. and Expert races, Mr. 32 new! He went (or down or over) and have a go. through spaces between bikes that looked like sheer suicide, layed his scooter over so low that any second I looked for him to lose it. And what did the man say after he cradled the trophy? ·You guys have got a real fun track here.· Fun he calls it! Thanks for coming uP Sid Payne a real pleasure to have you. Also a bouquet to Art's Motorcycle Shop for putting uP a very good looking trophy for the sweepstakes race. I hope it gets shown around in Cal. When we do something special here, we encourage out-of-town riders to come up and give them something to talk about when they get back. While on the subject of out of town riders, we had entries Sunday from Reno, Burbank, Hollywood, Lancaster and even Sparks! Also thanks to the 15 or so members of the Sprockets who came uP to ride from Bakersfield. There were over 70 entries, including local Silver Queen's rider Gem Willey and Rita Noel. who rode with the guys. SOnday's race had been a benefit race for Bob Bradly, Silver City Scrambler who was hurt at the first Sunrise race earlier this year. But Bob deserves a big band and much thanks for he turned all the proceeds over to the fund for Roy Chivington. Roy went down in a nood of riders at Corriganville. At least 1 or two bi ke s hit him and Roy was taken unconscious to the Community Hospital in Simi where, as of tOday, he remains in a coma. Sunday we almost lost him due to an instant temperature rise. However half of the staff rushed to his aid and things seem now to he a little better. All the local club members, co-workers and friends of the Silver City Scramblers Club and Compo committee president, have expressed concern for Roy and his family. A fund has been set uP and contributions so far are excellent. The Hill and Gully riders (Nipton) are turning over every cent (no expense deducted) from riders entries and spectators, to the fund when they bold their second event Dec. 18th at their track 56 miles south of Las Vegas. I hope every rider marks that on his calendar and can make it. The money gee s to the family of a real great guy. If I don't close this off my editor will have a fit, but can't till 1 mention two more things. It seems I didn't call enough people to find out Why the Vegas Valley MlC members were in short suPPly at their last desert event. Two of the officers wives were sick, and others bad to work. SOrry fellows and to the girls, a spee!1Y recovery. Both are real nice people.
