As soon as the gree n li ghts were on, e veryon e knew it was n't right, for Cook didn' t burn out in the usual fashion. J im Cook, who had clea ned all the c ogs from the gear box shafts , came throu gh the lig hts at 11.65 seconds. Sonny RasIa wski put in an ' ela psed time at Lion s drag s trip that was the weekend's quic kest. Only two machines were on the fue l kick and Bob Ebeli ng's Triumph was Sonny' s only competition. Each fired on the electric roll ers and moved forwa rd to stage. W hen th e yellow li ght took on a green cast each mac hine moved out and aft e r the first forty feet it was Har ley-Da vidso n all the wav.scnny took the trip in 10.08 seconds at 144.00 miles pe r hour. E ven though Sonny was the only man ridi ng, two others were in the back ground, one was Gayl and Hill, who owns the Ha rley dealership in Oxnard, Callf., and the ot her is Gordon Kately who accompanies Sonny. TOP STREET Each race was a cl os e finish at the fina l few of 1320 feet at Irwindale. Th e lights can measure the elapsed times to within one fiv e hundredths of a second accuracy and thus each race would be a dead heat if riders a nd machines pertormed exac tl y as they did when thei r best time was turn ed during the day. Irwindale, Fontana. Lio ns a nd Romona . Th e Satu rday program for bik es is only at Irwindal e and the other three are open SUnday. F ontana has their great 50 cents per mlll for all spee ds over one hundred award.
