The Long Beacb band ballyhooed the leathered knights onto the " field of banle" for the opening once again before a crowd that paid oyer $250 0.00 prizes, the largest in the area in over three m onths• The fi rst I OOcc main eve nt eve r run at an i ndoor e vent had Simmons ri ght back on hi s 90cc H onda fo r his second st raight bi g one of the ni ght. He l ed a 1-2-3 Honda parade ac ross the lin e in t he eight lap fina l with novi ce Dan K elly in second and Steve Scott taking third. Russ Robinson on a Yamaha 80 broke the Honda string and took fo urth with Hodaka's new ace , Cal Rayborn, running fifth . T he ten lap " B" final was agai n pl ac ed on the program for the rid ers that finished outsid e th e top t hree places in the sellii main events. T his one was a runaway for . BSA mount ed Ralph White who agai n went to the museum and brok e out his 1937 250cc " Speci al". Steve Scot t . this time on a Bultaco, ran second with Bultac o mounted Sonny Nutter a cl ose third. Th e last semi t o obtain the final three riders was won b;j" Honda-mount ed Ja ck Simmons with T ri umph riding Skip Van L eeuwen i n second and BSA amateur L es Horn runnin g third. E very one of the f our si x- l ap semi mains were run under the one minut e mark. Draayer posted the fastest si x i n t he s econd round of elimi nations.
