This annual event is all that remains of the famous California sportsman classics. This year will be the eighth annual running of the Gra.nd Prix. Each year, motorcyclists from all parts of the United States load their machinery after endless hours of tuning and preparation, a.nd head for the one time movie ra.nch, to pit their skill against hundreds of fellow enthusiasts. In 1965, 663 contesta.nts provided thrills aplenty for spectators in excess of 12,000. This year, the event will have 747 hardy souls, including the 3-time World Champion Torsten Hallman from Sweden. This will mark die first time a rider of Inte~ national Moto Cross fame has had the opportunity to race against California's finest. In years gone by, the promoting Dirt Diggers M.C. have held a Sweepstakes Event, choosing the entries from all class winners. Past winners have included such well known riders as Bud Ekins, Dave Ekins, Pat Zaremba, Eddie Mulder, Iva.n Oden. a.nd Ron Nelson. Nelson retired the Perpetual Sweepstakes Trophy, afler winning it three time s in succession. The co..se winds over three mUes of fire roads, gullies, aDd through oak trees, providing a vadety of terrain to tax riders' skill to die utmost, Spectators are free to roam around the course, and thereby able to see all corners and spots of interest. Sidecars have, as always, put on an impressive spectacle, with the passengers' mighty endeavors to keep the chariots upright, as they bounce along the ruts and turns, attempting the pe~ fect synchronization that winning requires.
