By Maureen Lee Prado's last point run of the season went over with a bang on Sunday. We nearly didn't have the run as the Sportsmen M.C.. thei r ranks thinned oot to about three working members by guYS going in the service or away at school, just didn't have enough left to run a race. The Four-Aces however, their members pitching in to do most of the work, came to the rescue so riders would have one less Prado cancelled. Let's all give that club a cheer! Oat With the Indians A good time was had by all, including the four· element" ~es who showed up the choppers, rode Ibrough the gate and had to be leaned on a little to pay up for watching the races. They promised they wouldn't cause any trouble, but a couple of competition riders were all for throwing them out on their ear right on the sPOt and there was an argument abuut that. To cut the story short. the general opinion was that even if they did pay their way in and promised to cool it, did we want them around us? This time it was four little Indians and they didn't cause trouble, but what happens baby, if twenty or thirt;y little Indians show up? A gocx;l time was also had by several riders who apparently thou ght they'd take advantage of the fact that it was the last Prado point Tace and theY'd ride even it it meant changing bikes (naughty, naughty) or riding in a couple of events. So before we go any further, r have a message for ALL riders who rode the day, and it is from Bob Hayes. Sports Committeeman who was Acting Referee for th e day for the two host clu 00. The results for the day are UNOFFICIAL. There were a few things going on that shouldn't have been, and some of the riders have been caught oot. Those who did transgress will be invited to appear before the COll1lletition Committee. How many of you have that uncomfortable feeling right about now?The fact is men. Little Brother was watching and you didn't get away with it! Some of the riders had receive\! their "Greetings' letter from Darwin Ballard and had been moved up to Expert status, two of these beingJoe Hamilton and John Sprague, but it didn't appear to slow them down any! We even had a group of riders drive down from San Jose to race. Who says people don't like Prado! Sprague, undeterred by his Expert plate, took on the 250 gang, putting up a real fight against Carl Patrick and Jim Bassey whose Suzuki let go just when he was showing us a real threat for top honors, and sprague ended up with the second behind Pat Patrick. Then hopping aboard a big Triumph, John went charging happily off to the Open Expert class. There, he beat Larry Wilburn in the first mota and took a second in the secood heat with as fine a display of good, hard, clean riding between the two as yoo'l! ever want to see. sprague's machine blew before the third mota, but the points he got for the first two gave him second ovel"all and Mike Van Acker with two thirds and a fourth got the third. Other nice wins for the day were those of "Stinker" Bro_ who walked away with the gold in Ibe 50cc class, and a good battle in the 250 Novice between Bul taco-mounted Roy Walter and Gary McLarty on a Husquvama that fairly Dew! Gary led the whole main, but on the last lap Walter got the drive out of the half-mile and took the checkered first by a nose! The big bore Novices closed the proceedings with Ron McDaniels racking up another very nice win in the Open class. The 500's had Jerry Heylek and Jim Cassel renewing their battle for top man and this week it was Heylek with the win and Jim (sporting those wild gloves of his) in the second spot.
