(Cycle Courtesy) Motorcycle Club of Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii held the second scrambles at their brand new track near Honolulu Sunday Oct. 12. Approximately fifty entrants were separated into four classes; 100cc, 101, 200, 201, 300 and open class with several mixed heats for consolation and hard-luck prizes. A total of 22 trophies were awarded. The first open heat was marred by a mid-air collision on one jump which caused one rider to lose control and veer into the spectator area. A small child was bumped and the rider took a hard fail. Both were rushed to the nearby Hickam AFB Dispensary where the kid. after a medical examination. was released to become the hero of his set. Mulder Moving New Indoor Class Eddie Mulder jumped back into Ihe winner's circle at San Gabriel Raceway last saturday night and again took Ihe point lead away from Gene Romero for Ihe third time this year. It was the last night race for San Gabriel for the -season so Ihe Ascot title race this saturday night could well decide the point title between these two top riders. A win by eilher rider will gi. ve them the title. Short Track Successful The annual victory banquet honoring all of the top professional racers in the area will again be held this year at the Gardena Elk's Lodge on 162nd St. and Western Ave. The banquet will be on Friday night. November 18th at which time all of the top point riders in the half-mile, TTs, quarter-mile and road races will receive trophies, awards and, most important of all, the point fund money that has been building up all season long. The banquet wHI be open to the public witb dinner, dancing and two bars open tbe entire evening. All riders who have competed at Ascot, Carlsbad, Long Beach Arena and San Gabriel Raceway are cordially invited to attend this once a year affair that pays honor and recognition to the area riders and champions. Friday night, November 18th. Tickets will be available at the door. The short track last Sunday, a first for Ascot. fOWld the riders all liking Ihe track, hard and damp, and wanting more. We would still like to see the top oval riders run Ihat short course on the lightweights at night with Ihe track in full bore cushion condition. TV Time If you can't ....ke it down to Ascot this Friday nigh t then tune in on your TV set at 8:00 p.m. and pick up most of the show, in color. on Channel :\. Tbey will show everything but the °B" final. Novice riders such as Marty Mac Donald. Mike Morton, Mike Liihicum and most of all, Jim Odom, gave Ihe well known experts a 100 g afternoon and a hard way to go. The Long Beach indoor races are just aroond the corner and prorroter Don Brymer has narrowed Ihe opener down to a one day and night affair over Ihe original two day event. The entire action will take place on November 19th, a saturday, with practice all afternoon and the races going at night.
