Lightweights Inc. M.C. Since it was only in the article once. you had to find it. Tbis would give tbe reader the idea that there was only one member of our club tbere or we didn't do too well and both are not true. Many members of the Lightweights M.C. - wives. children. and friends went to Las Vegas this montb with tbe main reason to bring borne victory in tbe scrambles beld in conjunction with safety Week. Cbances of winning the 100cc Expert class were damllened when one of Dist. 37'S top riders, Keith Mashburn was unable to attend. Kurt Lewis on bis Honda 50 ootrode Vegas' top 50 rider to lake the first two moto crosses. Then won the third wben their top rider's bike stopped running. Yamaha mounted Jay Lewis although an Expert. took third overall in the same class. Louis (Skip) Schleif riding .bis Honda 50 for the first time. took third place Am. even tbough be had to use wire to keep his valve cover on. Kurt Lewis this time on a stock Yarmha 80 rod e well to lake second place in the 100cc Am. Floyd Lewis was able to ride his Yamaha 80 to fifth, even thoogh the rotary valve was in backwards, in tbe 100cc Expert class. 200cc Steve Stricklin on a Hooda 160 led the first mota for three laps but took second. And in the second be fell but lIPt up to get second. In the last. even though outriding the 200cc Bullaco mounted leader, again took second • second overalL "Mad" Mike Raclner took fourth place in tbe 200cc Am-Ex even though be was riding a Suzuk1120. In the 250cc Bultaco-mounted Steve Stricklin ran away with his beat race. In the main the action went like this: after passing seven guys in turn one be took second place. On laps two and three the leader built up a lead, but wben the checkered flag fell Steve was only one bike length bebind tbe leader. Fred Grabowski took fourth in his heat, won the semi and in tbe main on the las t lap after passing two riders to lake fifth, went off the track to eod up seventb Steve Stricklin (320x) was the only rider from our club to make sweepstakes. Steve beld fourth place aod was being beld UP by a 650 for foor laps. As be got tbe yellow flag he passed the 650 leaving him some 50 feet behind the two neck and neck front runners. In that one lap he closed the lead to 10 feet so be finisbed a very fast closing third. If there had been one more lap? Well. wbo knows? I have been told that our club is in fourth place in lightweight competition. Well maybe next they won't lake us so lightly. If you DON'T LIKE IT , IT •••CHANGE • GO AHEAD •••• You won't hurt our feelings. We don't pretend one motol" cycle will suit every taste just as it comes uncrated. Even if it IS the best bike going.
