• By Gi!oree Martin SbowiDg lJ&ailI that when his machinery is running right he is nearly invincible on Vellejo's filth-mile short track, San Pablo's Dick Dorresteyn took the 2O-lap Northern California short track championship there. Dorresteyn bas had a spotty record at the Vallejo track. usually due to the tricky temperament of his high-strung Suzuki mount. But when the Suzuki's tWin expansion chambers are buzzing like a swarm of angry bees. it's rare that another rider makes it first to the checkered flag. Such a night was Vallejo's final event. Dorresteyn set up his victory with Wins in his heat and semi-mains. In the 2G-lap final. Dorresteyn was back in the pack in the first turn, but" began immediately to pick off riders and advance his position. Track points leader Dick Faria o[ San Pablo, Sacramento's Butch .COlder, aDd fiDaIly Phil CaDciIla o[ San Jose were passed by the hipid San PablBIJ in that order. Corder aDd Faria continued to battle fiercely [or third, while Cancilla [ooght to keep up with Dorresteyn. At the finish it was Dorresteyn, Cancilla (Suzuki), Corder (HO) and Faria (Ducati). Winners of the semi-mains were Cancilla over Faria and Lauer, Dorresteyn ahead of Corder, and Dave Bostrom of Daly City am:! Dwane Francisco of Walnut Creek ahead of Clift Aksland of Manteca and Roger GoldthwlUthe of Sunnyvale. Heat winners were Cancilla, Dorresteyn, Goldthwaithe. Bill Stockham of Vallejo, Bostrom and Francisco. The season at Vallejo was promoted by J.C. Agajanian and George Acree. -DISTRICT SA Larce Bille Ptn Sta illS mae lalllillllefere tile 11&1 N-.s _lssaetD Rlelar No. 8 2:i 24 10 12 4 130 • N_ HadaD H.lnk.Iey Ray Aadersoa Skip Saylo£ ~ Class Ex.
