WEEKEND ON WHEELS CONTD. VISIT TO A COWBOY'S RANCH One thing managed to sa ve the day. William S. Hart, America's first great cowboy star, had a ranch in Newhall and upon his death deeded the entire 220 acres to Los Angeles County. It now is a combination park and museum. Both Hart's home and the eight room bunk house have been completely restored and contain many theatrical and motion picture mementos from the great star's illustrious yet brief career. There is also considerable art by the two most famous painters of the American West, Charles Russell and Frederick Remington. Admission is free and the bouses give a tremendous insight in to HollywOod's early days as well as an interesting glimpse of the early West. The Park is located at 24151 Newball Ave. and is open from 10:00 to 5:00 every day except Monday, Picnic tables and barbecue areas belp to make tbe rancb an ideal visiting place for lamilies and groups. 000000000000000000 One of the great ways to enjoy a motorcycle road trip is to pack your own gear and camp along tbe way. As mentioned previously, Bill Boyd has just returned from a season in Ireland and SCotland, climaxing his trip with a ride in the 250cc Isle of Man TT. What we didn't know at the time was that Bill was sponsored by a prominent san Francisco Yamaha dealer. We tip our hat to Al Fergoda of the Bay City for his fine deed. We have also learned that if Bill had finished the race in the eleyenth place that seemed so secure, he would have captured the honors of first private entry as well as first American, which would have been qulte a feather in his cap as well as Yamaha's. In local competition, Ron Grant has secured the cha""ion titles in both the 250 and 350 classes in AFM competition this year. Ron rode several machines in eacb class but Suzuki provided the leverage in the 250 clas • Congratulations to all parties involved. Our next column will carry details on the upcoming AFM points award banquet and membership conven tion, to be held in conjunction with the Northern season finale on November 12th and 13th at Cotati. Also watch Cycle News for possible final Los Angeles Chapter points race in October at Willow Springs - pr~ vided we can get the necessary cooperation to obtain use of this track. It's here again!
