First race goes at 8:15, with gates opening at 7. Romero has been a smash hit at the 183rdand Vermont Avenue track. winning ITain events in both the flat-track competition and also in the steeplechasing. He ranks among the leaders in National standings. So does Draayer. the young man from Salt Lake. Draayer has raced at Ascot only sparingly. so hasn't compiled the local record that Romero has. But, he, too. has been a main event victor this seaSOn. Of course. the veterans figure to be plenty tough for the newcomers. Such riders as samlllY Tanner. Ralph White. Elliott SChultz and Dick Hammer would be numbered in this group. Tanner is the season points leader as th e race heads to the wire.
