Wllb Prado on its last leg unless we get lucky in a hurry, it looks as if Ibe troops are trying to ride it every chance they ,et before ovemher first. As always, it's hard to choose any one class where racing is any better than the others especially with the caliber of our local scramblers who race week after wee k like they do. After a few mooths of seeing the same faces in the same turns all the time it gets a little hard to remember where you saw who and what they were doing at the time! The 175 ElIPerts had a good thing going with ~k McDowell on a Honda mixing it up with two of the "high point" men in that class, Jim Doran and Wade Zimmerman. on Bultacos. The three of them waged a good battle, with McDowell the eventual winner. Another ,motocross with some ding-dong action was the 21" Amateur class. ToDY Simon, Jack Coode and Chuck Basney roared around the track with Chuck goiUg off the course at one point and Simon and Coode swapping places back and forth .. The day started with fog and then deve loped into typical Prado weather. dust and sunny with racing as hot as the climate. In the IOOcc Expelt division, Dale Smith resumed his challenge of Kirk McDowell. Dale, who has a new ·bike to ride is really hauling these days, and is giving the redoubtable McDowell a real run for his money. This youngster bears watching. . • • Photo • ArtlInd the 01ller WIJ • \ Arter the 250cc Experts ran, with the win going to Dick Brittain on a Honda with a flying Doug Yerkes chas- HOTSHOE T·SHIRTSU .- _ Here's I brad new it. John Sprague, the 250 Amateur winner, took the win with Kirk McDowell second. The big bores shared the afternoon, Novice heats being run right along with tbe Amateurs and Experts. The open Experts had a good run, with Lany Wilburn, sporting real swingin' new leathers, taking a win over BSA-rider Bill Manley. Tbe third and fourth place guys, Triunq>h-mountedJerry Willingham and Si Porrer put on a great show. The open Amateurs had some good tussles in their qualifying beats, and in the Main Ben FakkeldY grabbed the lead spot and held it aboard his Triumph with Bill McCoy on a Harley and Carl Patrick on a Norton behind him. Patrick made his way to the Main the hard way after a broken chaln forced him out of his lead spot in his heat right at the end, putting him into the Semi and then to the Main. With ten riders starting the first moto, the 500 Expert class, which ~t times resembles open warefare, could have gone either way this Sunday with Phil Brown doing a tremendous Job in taking the lead and holding it against the onslaughts of Jim Hunter, Monte Darling, John Heynemano and Miller Harper. But at the end it was Hunter with the highest number of points (and let's face it, racing experience as well). The day ended with just three big bores riding their reverse sweepstakes, Lany Wilburn (the ooly ooe who didn't go off the coorse) Ben Fakkeldy and Jim Hunter slid around for a few laps, wi th La try winnln g e asHy .
