This week Don Bower took the trophy by a big margin and Gran t Hannah now knows that the fuel flows better with the pet-cocks open. Robert Long's 450cc Honda defeated two 30.50 Triumphs for his class tr Cll Q() '" Cl.., WIN THE MACHINE OF YOUR DREAMS Arter the long seige of big bike drag meets, this weekend seemed like an echo cbamber with only the last sounds faintly beard. But the Friday meet at Lions sbowed that some new noises are going to be made. Sonny Raslawski and Millard Disharoon each tipped the nitro cans in tbeir individual ways and eacb ended the day with a different note. Disharoon was the first out for a try at the quarter mile on a fuel burning Harley-Davidson and every'thing went fine until "Dish" reached the lights. Wben an attempt was made to shut down, the engine was dieselizing and this gave a rather definite sign that the fuel-air ratio was a little lean. Sonny Raslawski's Harley was brought out for the next try and when he was towed to 30 miles per hour he cast off and dropped the clutch to fire, For an instant the engine seemed to seize and then broke free, but there was no sign of life from his engine and the bike rolled to a halt. When back in the pits, Sonny pulled the Harley's barrel and head to find numerous bits and pieces, with a rod that was shaped like his first initial. Disharoon came forward for another try after changing the carbs' float level, but his clutch slipped .... 'tOP STREET Sal Estrada had watched the two previllous money races and planned to not become a similar victim of error. He carefullY staged his Harley-Davidson and left when the christmas tree was green to win top street turning 12.93 E.T. and 101.80 mph. It will be interesting to see how many competitors drop their guard after this week's example and become Red Light victims next time. NEWS FLASH Lions Drag Strip will no longer run on Fridays, but will change the day of Cycle competition to Sundays. Next week. October 2nd, the gates will open at 9:00 a.m. with qualifying ending at 12 noon. A new twin engine Triumph is being built by Don Harris and it is alreadY well on the way to completion. Will Triumph be the only regular twin engine Fuel burning competitor or will some other breed of twin engines have the can put to them. or Who, if anyone, will build another West Coast twin engine Harley-Davidson? 0> .
