Oruge County Speedway 9/14/66 The ACA number one l00cc point leader, Itllss Robinson, Yamaha rider from Garden Grove, is gaining Ibe reputation that Ivan Odeo has enjoyed over the last 20 events as being almost unbeatable at Orange County in the IOOcc events. October 2nd, 1966, the SCrambles season begins at Cycl land Speedway, Chico, Calif. Events are to be held each 1st and 3 rd Sunday of the month. If weather wipes out a race the race simply is cancelled until the n ext 1st or 3rd Sunday. The year 1966 has been a successful season at Cycleland Spe dway, and 1967 should be even more favorable as the owners plan on putting in more grandstand room, and making the faciliti es more accommodating and attractive for both spectators and participants. Calif. found the stands full. the weather cool and enjoyable, and the riders just itching to get on with the racing. The 200cc class was the one in which particular excitement developed as Bill Dotson lead Dave Veffredo by onlY two points for the season championship. If Dave were to finish in front of Bill by two places the season championship would have been tied. The race built up to a feverish pitch as the starter's flag went down, and the riders blasted off toward the finish. As it so happens neither Bill or Dave were in contention for atrophy, however at the finish Dave was one place ahead of Bill and thus finished the season 1 point behind for the championship. The event was won by Dennis Chandler ·of Central Valley on a Bultaco. He was followed by Loren Ballman of Willows. Calif. and Bob Brown Chico, Calif. both on Bultacos. Greg Michael of Willows on a Honda won the 60cc event leading from start to finish. second was Tom Von Seggem of Willows on another Honda and third place slot was filled by Loren Strong, of Red Bluff on a Yamaha. Bill Chambers, of Live Oaks on an Yamaha looked his best of the year as he won the 90cc event by a long margin. Ray Vatney of Carmichael on a Hodaka was second, followed by Paul Minor Jr. Sacramento on a Honda. The 125cc class was put away by Bob Bagshaw of Red Bluff on a Bultaco with James Peck of Sacramento on a Bultaco breathing down his neck. The meeting previously scheduled to be held in ew York City will now be beld in Columbus. Ohio, according to W.E. Berry, Jr., Acting Chairman of tbe committee. Berry stated that the meeting format will be similar to previous years, and Ope n Forum will be held the afternoon of Sunday, October 30th.
