DRAGS from frolt Pile

Bob Bravennan was matched against
Charles YOIBIg, both Yamaha-molMlted
and turning in the thirteen second bracket at better than 102 miles per hour. Bob
did not stage properly and when the
yellow light countdown began, Bob's
lane drew a red light which gave the win
to Charles. Braverman said ·color me
red!· and congratulations to Charles
Young and Burt's Yamaha of AZUsa.
A similar event occurred in B street
and the win went to Dick strickland's
BSA. Even though Dick received the
trophy gold, he would have rather
trounced Triumph by just simply going
faster and being Quicker.
The 30.50 machines are increasing
their performance to stay ahead of Honda444 bikes and this they are successfully doing. Harry Couch rode his Triumph to class winner in the C street
division and Len Jasmin turned his over
to Bob Michaels, who secured the C gas
trophy. Honda's only strong contender
was Le Roy Wyman and his 350cc record
holder. This week Le Roy turned 13.80
elapsed time with a speed of 100 miles
per hour and that is speed for a 350.
At Lions
Friday night seems to be less than
ideal for competitors because of the conflicting calendar with other cycle events.
As a result the turnout was not strong
and the only hot competition was in D
street class and F gas.
Dave Allee brought out his record
holding 305 to defeat three other contenders for tbe trophy in D street. This
week he turned an elapsed time of 14.13
with a speed of 92.49 miles per hour.
This is a little below par for Dave, but
that will be remedied.
Yamaha gave us a great race for F
gas class between BOb Braverman and
Dusty Foglesong. BOb's machine is a
drag bike and Dusty's a road racer, but
other than gearing there is a scant line
of difference. Bob took the heads-up
race with a final time of 13.18 with a
speed of 102.38
Coming Attractions
Next weekend, Irwindale Raceway
will give us a first class race for top
bike between the eight fastest machines
of the meet. This shoul d be worth seeing!
Sunday ,. Lions drag strip presents
another all bike meet with 66 A.H.R.A.
trophy classes. Then there will be a
race for$I,OOO.OO prize money and while
all of this goes on someone may set an
A.H.R.A. world record or an A.M.A.
national record. This is the first time
that A.M.A. has sanctioned Quarter mile
record runs and so score another stride
in drag racing for bikes. Gates open at
9:00 a.m. Be there!
One week from the aU bike meet, or
September 17th, there will be the Arizona state bike drag championships
with a big bundle of money for the winners and there are trophies to boot.
A caravan to Tucson raceway will
leave the SOuthern California area at
9:00 p.m. Friday, Septemher 16th, from
the Eastland shopping center parking
lot in Covina. The center can be seen
from the San Bernardino Freeway on the
north side. It is illuminated by a big
May Co. sign. To be more explicit: take
the san Bernardino Freeway east (from
L.A.) to the Barranca turnoff and tum!
Head North and the lot is directly to
your left. See you drag racers at each
of these big meets!

For two years (l!lli4 & 1965) Neil rode a 4-cycle bike in the desert &
(thanks to HUIOil) held the #2 & #1 lightweight plate for those years
respectively. For 1966, Neil switched to a 2-cycle and since we
didn't make an oil for 2-stroker, he left us, Well, to make a long story
longer... Neil hadn't even finished a race this year. Last week we
gave him a can of our NEW 2-CYCLE OIL THE RESULTS?............
