TRIALS • By Geor ge Maness • This las t Sunday the Standard Oil Copany , indirectly , hosted the Southern California T rials Association in the Baldwi n Hills. Although the weather was a bit wa rm for most of the competitors , e veryt hi ng e lse was in good shape and the sections were good a nd rough. All but one 01 the sections were la id out al on g a na rrow di rt roa d that runs al on g the bottom and si de 0 1 a deep gully near the northwest co mer 0 1 the area. Only one 01 the traps wa s easy (to keep the beg inners lrom bein g too emba rra ssed to re turn), and throughout the day one co ul d hear s uc h co mments as: "Thi s I like ," " I hate it - but I'll co me bac k • for mor e," " . haven't worked so har d si nce the Greenho rn!' • • • Th e Masters class, as expected , provided the thr ills and beauty. If yo u've never seen these boys rid e you're rea ll y missing something. J i m Wilson was the man of the day - only 30 marks were charged against him in his MASTE Rful demonstration of moto rcyc ling grace. He was closely foUowed by Bill Landefeld with 42 marks. Bob Lers c h and J ack Milne tied for third with a score of 50. Th e winne r of the Exper t class won't be decided until the next trials because J im C amer on and Dick Murray both lo it but 50 marks a nd ha d the s a me numbe r )f .. clean rides .
