In the I OOcc class. rising s ta r Russ Robinson from Garden Grove , wno started his racing season on a Yamaha and then switched to a Suzuki , is rapidly climbing up the points ladde r and gai ning on the present IOOcc points le ader, Rick Woods. Robinson did this very speedily Wednesday night by winning both the IOOcc Trophy Das h and the Main Eve nt . Second place in both events we nt to Rick Woods on his Yarnaha. in the 250cc B Main, Sal Acosta on a Bultaco took the win over Pat Me Gregor on his Montesa , with Joe Occhiuto in third . T he 250cc A main was won very handi ly by Rick Woods on a Duca t!. Rick has now moved into the point lead in the 250cc class as well as the IOOcc class , emphasizing his position by winning both the 250cc Trophy Dash and Ma in Event. Third was J on C rawford from Costa Me s a on a Bulta co. A bit of exc ite ment occurre d in one of the prelimina ry race s when thr ee of the rid ers in the rive-man race fell in the 4th co mer. T he remainin g two rid er s got the " hol d pos i ti on" nag as they came by the start ing lin e. Going into the back chute , the second rider crept by the rtrst rid er , thereby disqualifyin g hims eH. Both men then carne to a bait in T um 4 where the accident had occurred, instead of co nti nuing the race at the pace set by the leader . Had the Itrst • plac e rider continued aro und the course under the " hold position" nag, he cou ld have putted in low gea r and still won the race. Meanwhile, the oth er rid ers bad pushed the ir machines to the lin e and were waiting for the race to be s tarted , a race whi ch had actually ne ver been stopped. Of the rid ers s till eli gible , none realized th e race was s till on, and this caused a great amount of excitement among the s pectators who were all shouting, tryi ng to make the riders realize the race was still on. In the IOOcc class . Rick Woods, wno has been a constant T rophy Dash winner . was a little over -anxious. He crept over the no-go line and was set back in the T rophy Das h, and the win went to Ke ith Ma sh burn from Santa Susana riding a Yamaha. However , with an even start in the Main E ve nt, proving it wasn't just 1uck in the Trophy Dash, Keith also took t he win. leaving high point man Rick Woods in a runne r-up position for the second time of the l-ea r. In the 250cc class , Woods , apparently realizing his mistake last week in the Trophy Da sh . held it lo w to the pole a nd won both the 250cc Trophy Das h an d Main Event . addi ng more poi nts to his current lead i n the 250c c class . In the Main, Woods was pus hed all the way , with a see-saw b a t ti e be twee n Rick , Lee st umpenhaus and Pr e s ton P et ty.
