T hi s was their first tim e on a desert enduro and th ey had t o go out and l ook for their bi k es in the dark. 'I'heydid n't find them, t hough. and got back i n c amp around 9: 00 p.rn. By thi s time, t he rest of our group (ei ght t ruckl oads in all ) was getti ng sett l ed down fo r t he night - - in sl eepi ng bags or t ruck beds . A lthough exhaust ed, they were all 10 0 king forward to t he next day 's ride. and by 9: 30 p.m. we were fa st asleep. During May they shi pped 4,500 250c c bikes to the U.S. but th e order i s far mor e t han that . In A ugust. when th e season ' reaches its peak. th e demand will be 8,000 or more. Th e model will be 8-221. West Germany Grand Pri x T he second World Grand Pr i x was hel d at Hock enheim Circuit i n West Germany on May 22nd. Honda won the 125c c , 350cc and 500cc even ts but Suzuk i ace A nsc hei dt grabbed 50c c victory . I n th i s rac e th e new Kawasak i 125c c was really something in the sec ond group. 25 0cc C lass: T his was a dead-h eat race bet ween Hailwood and Redman, both on Hondas, fr om begin ning to end. Bu tfinally Hallwood won by 0.3 se conds over Redman. T he top .la p was Redman' s 107. 26 mph. Y amaha' s st rong man, Ivy , was third, 16 seco nds behi nd Redman. 350cc C l as s: Hallwood ran by himself on a Honda all the way . T he only ri val was Benelli' s P rovi ni but he was one l ap behi nd. B . Bill (Honda) was tbi rd. 500 cc C l as s: Redman r a e e d this event beautifully al l t he way . All of t he West German GP races were won by H onda except t he 50c c- -a remarkabl e feat . The top l ap of 500c c was by Redman at 109.10 mph. Th e third World GP will be held i n France on June 3. (Results on page 12) A Norwalk motorc ylist was carried into Los Altos Hospital with feathers in his beard Sunday after a collision with a "h it-and-fly" pigeon caused him to swerve into a stand of eucalyptus trees. JohnMoore, 29, of 11708 Mondon Ave., was given a sedative and transferred to the Long Beach VA Hospital, complaining of severe back pain. 1< 1< 1< MOORE TOLD OFFICERS David May and John Wilhite he was cruising down an alley adjacent to the hospital at 2240 Los Coyotes Diagonal, when the bizarre accident occurred about 5 p.m. He said the gray pigeon slammed headon in to his face and he veered into the trees, striking two of them. The motorcycle was not damaged. Physicians said Moore-who survived a severe paramute mishap while in the service-had to have feathers plucked out of his Van Dyke goatee in the emergency , room.
