Like th e produ cers of many ot her light-weight scramblers, the boys in the back room of the Dot factory decided tha t thi s powerplant had been stretched j ust about to the limit. So why not design their own engine . Th e ne w engi ne is bas ed on an Alpha (the bearing sp ecialists) crankshaft and rod ass embly li ke the Greeves Challeng er. Unlik e the Greev e s though, the new Dot also us es an ' Alpha crankcas e. Sitting atop this. bold and brass y as all ge t-out , i s a n aluminum cylin de r that is pure Dot.
