He was born in th e Southlan d, Los Angeles to be exact. He started racing in Hare Scrambles at the early age of 14 years. When he was 20 y,ears old he be gan his n at track career, nght at the old Gard ena 14 mile dirt track. He has enj oy ed numerous wins in ei ght ye ar s of racin g. As a Novice ride r, he did real well, winni ng alm os t al l the races he entered. He enjoyed a ~u cce s s ful amateur year , as well, moving dir ectly up to Expert. And finally, when he had been an Exp ert for several years , he was crown ed 1964 Dirt Track Champion. Black ie is marri ed, and the fath er of 6 children , a real family man . He is the par ts mana ger for Norm Reeves Cycle Shop. He is an amateur numismatis t (coin collector), and his othe r fa vorite s port is ar ch ery . Blackie Bruce exe mplifies al l the good in cycle rac ing. He is neat and clean ,on th e track, as is his equipme nt and his mode of racing.
