Only three rid e r s fell in th e six h eats. th e semi -main , and main event that made up the Novice porti on of the program. Althou gh the re have been better ni ght s than thi s , the opening nights have been f ar worse . Mr. B ert Brundage. Distri ct s 37's A .M.A. refer ee. has high hopes that this i s a res ult of the new rul e requiring possession of a Spor t s Committ ee Amat eur or Expert license before a Cl ass C No vi c e can compete at As cot . This rule. adopted by the A.M. A. 's National Competition Committ ee last ye ar. i s for now, effecti ve only in Di stri ct 37 becau se fe w oth er Di stri cts have Sport s Committ ees active enou gh for such a r u I e to work effective ly . If th e rul e resu lts in any imp rovement in As cot' s already co mmend able safety record, there is little doubt that i t will be e xte nded to all areas havin g enough sportsm an raci n g to make such a rule effective.
