First the t rack had to be watered down. dragged , leveled and watered down again. This entailed real worknmning tractors and manning the water truck . The club wanted to be certain that the track was in the be s t possible condition . Finall)' when the track looked as tho ugh it bad been s ifted through a sand strainer, and was as s mooth as a cal m lake, they relt like the track was ready ror a tryout and some good old cycling run . They unloaded the bikes, AND OFF THEY TOOK . About four hours or run elapsed, and before we knew it, it was time to start in all over again to get the course in shape tor Sunday. Agai n the equipment was manned and the work began - watering down, leveling, dragging. The track was a gain in excellent condition, and we hit the hay abo ut 1:30 a .m, only to rise and shine again at 6:00 a.m , To my surprise there were still things to be don e! Someone had to be at the gate to tak e the money , also someone had to sign the riders up , and still others had to be 'Oagmen' , tor th e r e were about 12 places the y had to Oag. Th e P ros pector s even had s omeone on hand to engrave the trophies. Yes they gav e the trophies out at P erris th e same day wit h the winners ' names pe rrectly engraved . Thanks to c areful preparation, the ra ces got off to a good start and wer e beautif ul all the res t of the day . Th e P ros pe ctors put on one of th e s moothe s t ra ces J have bee n to and eve rybo dy that we spoke to the re said the same thing. Race of the day, as far as the promot ing club i s concerned, took place on Saturday. The Prospectors main event.
