F rom what took place at Irvine ' s Sycamore Park on Sunday , it lo oks as if motocross racing could come on in a big way if more meets can be held in that ar ea. Th e entrance to tbe track was well-marked and gay fl a gs lined th e fence that par allel s th e Ri verside Fr eeway , in viting peo ple who wer e out for a Sunday dri ve to come in and see what was going on. Th e pits were placed under bi g trees , providing a ve ry at tract i ve setting. and spectators co uld s it on a hill ove rloo ki ng the start and the first two jumps before watching the rider s vanish into the trees. A lot of people walk ed int o the back co untry to watch t he rac ing in the real rough s ections. Specta tors were obviously ha ving a good time, the bot-dog stand so ld out by t he end of the day , and the so ft-d rink conce ssio n al so did a booming business. The events were run off in su ch good styl e that yo u hardly dar ed turn your back for a second of you 'd mis s so mething. Th e 250 cl as s was broken int o three sections due to the number of riders , and provid ed ju st as e xcit ing action as the bigg er machines, if not more. Le e Stumpenhaus and his Greeves emerged the winner, s howing fans how the rough sho uld be ridd en , but two C-Z riders , P hil Bowers, and Ed Scheodler won th eir classes, with Bowers takin g a hardfought s econd to Stumpenhaus in the sweep stake s.
