The first Yamaha to ever show up in this country during the last Catalina Island race in '58 . . . Th e first Honda to show up on these shores the same year and it sat in Floyd Clymer's store for nearly a year with nobody really knowing what it was for or all about??? link fence -and into haH mile retirement? Dick Hammer and Jim Goldsmith in the ir once a month 11 duels at Ascot and Riverside as novice ride rs . . . finishing one-two for the entire season that year . . • Goldie on a Matchless Twin with Hammer on a BSA twin? Hammer coming back the next year to bke both high point amateur and expert 11 honors after some close battles with Dorresteyn and Sowell . . . Th e last 11 Tace ever run at De Anza in Riverside when Leonard and Dorres teyn rode wheel to wheel right down to the flag? Remember when it was a big deal to have a total of 100 riders at a 11 event at Ascot ... '61 and Keen, Keen and more Keen with full bore shots through the North tum? The '61 Ascot national when Keen came from 7th place to overtake" Reswebe r on the 15th lap and the n go on for the national . win . . . Reswebe r with a full straighbway lead when Keen started his dr ive . . . Keen recei ving a standin~ ovation from the crowd after tha t one . . . The first and last rider to ever receive this honor? Th e famed "BSA Wrecking Crew" of Gunter, Keen, O'Brien and Stu MorJey winning everythin!!: offered at Ascot for more than a year ... also more nationwide publicity than any other unofficial team up to that time ... ?
