HOPETOWN
N ELSON, M ULDER DO IT AGAIN
It cost Eddie Mulder $100 to ride the Dirt Diggers' 6th annual
Grand Prix scrambles at Hopetown Sunday, but it was worth every
single buck. The youthful Triumph expert made Thanksgiving mincemeat out of his big bike competition by storming as fast around the
entire 2.8 mile rough scrambles course as mos t hotshoes punch it
through the pits.
Mulder's $100 post entry fee , the hi ghest on record for a sporting
scrambles, was a special dispensation on the part of the promoting
club to let the Burbank prima donna ride. His was the only late entry
purchased, and the money was donated to charity by the 20-member
Dirt Diggers Motorcycle Club, which did a remarkably good job of
staging the 2-day event.
Racing against the other big bike winners except Mulder, rugged
Ron Nelson retired the Dirt Diggers' enormous perpetual trophy by
winning the special sweepstakes 3-lapper for the third time in a row. .
The small bike sweepstakes, for Saturday's winners, was postponed until Sunday, then cancelled.
Saturday's little bike action nearly matched the big bores for excitement. Young Rich Thorwaldson showed his Bultaco's behind to the
250cc expert pack after managing to overcome the challenges of
