COMPACT RACING Winner of the Oran ge County Speedway Cham pionships 250cc main event was Johnny Balaam from Laguna Beach on a Bultaco. Johnny was running in second position behind Lee Stumpenhaus for the first four laps of the main event, Lee had a considerable lead and looked as if he would have an easy win. On the fifth lap, Lee looked as if he were going to have a seizure. He pulled into the infield, allowing Johnny Photo by ~obert Krips Balaam to move out into the lead. After examining h is machine Stumpenhaus resumed racing and ended up in fourth place. The 100cc main was also won by Balaam on a Gilera, closely followed by Rick Woods of Huntington Beach on a Yamaha and Gary Bailey · on a Yamaha. In the 50cc class, Mike Smith on h is Tohatsu was ab le to beat out his champion brother , Da ve Smith, and win the 50cc Orange County Championship main event. Eddie the Showboat The only way to slop Eddie Mulder in the TI events is to keep him away from the race track or maybe ch ange •the track itself. The latter ma y take place for next year.
