A
t long last, the premier
American road racing
series got underway, minus
the fans, at Wisconsin's Road
America venue for round one of
MotoAmerica 2020.
In glorious sunshine, Cameron
Beaubier took pole position and
rode to a pair of wins that looked
so easy, it seemed at times he was
just riding to the shops. Beaubier, in
his first race for Richard Stamboli's
Monster Energy Attack Perfor-
mance Yamaha outfit, was simply
on another level at Elkhart Lake,
as he put on an ominous display of
speed that the rest of the field now
has to find a way to stop.
Race one saw Beaubier lead
every lap, set a new lap record and
take the win by 7.8 seconds over
Westby Racing Yamaha's Mathew
Scholtz and Beaubier's new team-
mate Jake Gagne, taking a debut
podium in third, 0.705 seconds off
South African Scholtz.
Race two saw Beaubier disap-
pear 13.4 seconds up the road by
the flag in a crash-strewn encounter.
First, M4 Ecstar Suzuki's Toni Elias
lost the front while running fourth on
lap three to go with his race-one me-
chanical DNF, then Elias' teammate
Cameron Beaubier's early lap speed was something to behold
at the start of race one. He pulled over two seconds off the start
and hit cruise control for an easy win. The battle behind was
enthralling, as Scholtz, Gagne and Fong traded places over the 12
laps. Scholtz would eventually get there in second over Gagne and
Fong. Wyman topped Herrin for fifth, and PJ Jacobsen was the first
of the Stock 1000 runners on his Ducati V4 R in seventh.
