LOOKING BACK
The Trask Mountain Three-Day ISDE Qualifier was our cover story 40 years
ago and pictured on the front page was Husqvarna-mounted Ed Lojak
riding to victory... High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania,
hosted the AMA 250/500cc National MX and Suzuki's Kent Howerton
took the 250cc-class win, and Honda's Chuck Sun captured his first
career victory in the 500cc class... We featured an interview with three-
time National MX Champion Jimmy "The Jammer" Weinert and talked
about his switch to Can-Am.

JUNE 4, 1980
A happy Jim Rice was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago
for having just won the AMA National Half-Mile in Reading, Pennsylvania.
The win, his third of the season, propelled Rice into second place in the
championship standings behind Dick Mann... We covered the Greenhorn
Enduro held in the California high desert of Pearblossom...We also
covered the East/West MX Showdown in Pepperell, Massachusetts. The
West won the motos but the East won the day. Overall winners included
Peter Lamppu and Barry Higgins.
