celebrates
his third
consecutive
Supercross
title.
margin over Seely for most of
the 15-lapper and eventually took
the checkered flag 5.6 seconds
ahead of the Honda rider to nab
his first career Supercross win.
For Anderson, the Salt Lake Supercross has been good to him.
He got on the podium for the first
time here last year and now he
gets his first win.
After the race, he said getting
his maiden victory was actually
a little easier than he thought it
would be. "Usually I just go crazy out there, but this time I was
just calm out there and put in
my laps," he said. "I don't know,
it was just a good race for me. I
was pretty nervous the last lap
because of the whoops, I didn't
want to throw it away on the last
lap there, so when I got through
them it was a sigh of relief.
"With the short start, getting
the jump was the key tonight,"
Anderson said of the main event.
"I had a good jump but went a
little wide the first time and came
out in third, but I made my passes
right away and came out with the
lead."
The main pass was the one he
put on Osborne. "It was kind of
a gutsy move," he said. "I ended
up on the outside of him and just
tried to carry on from there. At
that point, I just wanted to put in
my laps, that's what I was focused
on. By lap 12, that's when it [the
prospect of winning] set in. I'm so
excited to get the win; it's crazy.
It's going to take a little while to
sink in but I'm pumped. It's an
emotional win with my family here
and being from New Mexico, I
consider this my home race."
Third in the race went to earlier
heat-race winner Martin Davalos
on the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki. Davalos, who is
still looking for that elusive first
Supercross win, got caught up
in a frantic midpack battle off
the start but eventually pulled
through at the end to get on the
podium in third, finishing four
seconds behind Seely.
Fourth on the night went to
JDR/J-Star KTM's Malcolm
Stewart who enjoyed one of his
best performances of his career.
He started off the race in fifth
and, at one point, slipped back
to seventh before moving up to
fourth at the end.
Rounding out the top five was
Seely's TLD teammate Christian
Craig, followed by Tomac, Rockstar Energy Suzuki's Ryan Sipes,
Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Tyla Rattray, JDR/J-Star KTM's Joey
Savatgy and Valli Motorsport/Yamaha's Travis Baker.
