LOOKING BACK
To test a Harley-Davidson FLT, CN owner/publisher Chuck Clayton rode
the "Tour Glide" across the country to Florida for Daytona Bike Week. We
ran a photo of him and the Harley (and a new friend) from Daytona Beach...
Florida's Billy Labrie won round six of the AMA GNC/Winston Pro Series
at Ascot Park after out-dueling Rick Graham... Kent Howerton, Bryan
Myerscough and Mike Bell made up the podium at the Kansas City
Supercross... Terry Vance rode a Suzuki GS1100 to victory at the NMRA
Cajun Nationals in Louisiana.

Rookie Dave Aldana made the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago
for winning the 200-mile Talladega National Championship Road Race
aboard a BSA Rocket Three. The win moved him up to second place
in the National Championship behind Dick Mann... We featured an
interview with road racer Ron Grant... We reported that Sweden's
Arne Kring, riding a Husqvarna, won the 500cc Motocross World
Championship round in France over Maico's Adolf Weil... Husqvarna
rider Jeff Penton won the Berkshire Two-Day Trial.
