Wentzel said. "He caught up to
me when I made a mistake at
the end of lap two, and then we
battled all the way to the finish. I
knew he was there as he almost
passed me a few times.
"The course was really good,"
Wentzel added. "When I walked
it on Saturday, I thought it might
be a little too easy, but it rained
on Saturday night and that made
it much more difficult."
For Smage, this was the
first-ever hard enduro event for
the top U.S. trials rider. "Had a
bunch of time- and energy-wast-
ing mistakes early in the main
that set me back but ended up
battling Quinn for the lead from
about the halfway point to the
end," Smage said. "I have a lot
to learn, change, and work on if
I want to do any more of this wild
racing." CN
