LOOKING BACK
Forty years ago, drag racer Russ Collins was pictured on the cover of
Cycle News to accompany our interview with the racer/race-team owner/
businessman... Brad Lackey finished second overall (and second in
both motos) to Belgian Andre Malherbe in the 500cc MX GP opener in
Switzerland... Mike Bell and Kent Howerton won the Pontiac Supercross
doubleheader. Jim Fishback won the Shamrocks Two-Day ISDT Qualifier
in Searles Station, California... Terry Clark won the Soboba Indian Grand
Prix, held on the Soboba Indian Reservation in California.

A photo of Mert Lawwill was pictured on the cover of Cycle News
50 years ago for winning the Flat Track National in Cumberland,
Maryland... Suzuki was giving the Japanese marque a name for itself
by winning again in the 250cc Motocross Grand Prix in Belgium,
where home riders Sylvan Geboers and Joel Roberts went 1-2.
CZ-mounted Roger DeCoster chased them to the checkers in third...
Whitey Martino beat out Mark Blackwell for the 500cc Senior-class
motocross win in La Fayette, Colorado.
