When Will Supercross Resume?
T
here has been speculation
of a possible plan to resume
the 2020 Monster Energy Su-
percross series in May or June
rather than later this Fall. Although
there has not been any formal
announcement of these plans
from Feld Motorsports, the series
promoters, they have been hav-
ing ongoing discussions with the
teams and partners about alterna-
tives. While details are still vague,
it appears Feld is hoping to hold
the final seven remaining rounds
of the 2020 championship in
Glendale, Arizona, beginning May
15 or 17, and held twice a week
thereafter until all seven remaining
rounds are completed. It sounds
as though the first three will be
East rounds for the 250SX class,
and the final four West rounds.
The first West round back might
happen on May 31. Word has
it there will be no spectators at
the Arizona races and that each
team will be allowed only so many
members, perhaps as few as 10,
including riders.
Ideally, the goal is to com-
plete the 2020 Monster Energy
AMA Supercross Series before
the start of the 2020 Lucas Oil
Pro Motocross Championship,
which is currently scheduled
to get underway on June 13 in
Jacksonville, Florida. However,
MX Sports, the organizers of the
outdoor motocross series, re-
cently announced that it is putting
a temporary hold on ticket sales
for all 11 rounds. This will allow for
updated measures—scheduling
changes—to take effect without
further complication. One could
speculate this to mean that ad-
ditional adjustments to the MX
calendar are on the way. Perhaps
fewer rounds? Or perhaps limited
spectators allowed?
Adding credibility to the reports
of Supercross finishing up in Ari-
zona in the upcoming months, de-
fending champion Cooper Webb
commented on his Instagram:
As some of you know and
have heard there's an opportu-
nity to go racing May 15th. I've
been asked my opinion and
have been on the phone talk-
ing to multiple different people
about it the last few weeks. As
of April 17th it sounded like a go
but as of yesterday (Wednesday,
April 22) it is becoming question-
able because some teams and
riders feel there isn't enough
time to get ready. I'm blessed to
be on @ktmusa where we are
There is a good chance
Supercross will start
up soon, but it will look
much different.
