Moto X: The First 10 Years
I
t's sometimes easy to forget
just how big the X Games really
were in the early 2000s. At a
time when YouTube wasn't really
a thing, major news networks
around the world would beam in
action from the Moto X games in
Freestyle, Big Air, Step Up and
Supermoto, making riders who
would otherwise just be side
players into global riding super-
stars—if only for a few years.
Now with the sport of FMX
pushed to such levels where
a double backflip-no-hander-
scratch-your-left-butt-cheek is
about the minimum required to
qualify for the night show, the
sport has lost much of its allure
and with it, sponsorship dollars.
But 15-20 years ago, the various
Moto X competitions were the
biggest draw in the X Games,
bigger than the Tony Hawk-dom-
inated skate and Dave Mirra-
dominated BMX events.
The video you see here is a
wrap of those first 10 years, the
most popular for motorcycles at
the world's biggest extreme sport
event. Pastrana's double flip,
Doug Henry and Ben Bostrom
dominating Supermoto, Brian
Deegan and Carey Hart going at
it in FMX, it's all here. CN
