We took a close-up look at Honda's latest factory flat tracker, powered by
a highly modified CX500 shaft-drive motor... Hank Scott won the 25-lap
Sacramento Mile after fighting past previous winner Mike Kidd... Nearly
250 riders started the Tecate 500 Enduro but only 31 finished, one of
those was winner Bob Popiel... Ed Lojak won the 2-Day AMA/ISDT
Qualifier in Alabama... We featured an interview with motocrosser Warren
Reid... Team USA defeated the Brits in the Transatlantic Trophy Match
Races at Brands Hatch.

APRIL 23, 1980
Jim Rice was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago for
winning the 5/8-Mile Holiday Downs National in Atlanta. Rice got around
Dick Mann and ran off with the victory... Mert Lawwill was racking up
the wins at Ascot Park Half Mile, as was Mark Brelsford in TT racing...
We had coverage of the flat track national in Boise, Idaho, where Lawwill
also took the win... Gunnar Lindstrom won the 250cc class at Bay
Mare Motocross.
