IN THE WIND P34 Dorna Announces MotoGP Financial Aid Package M otoGP commercial rights holder Dorna has announced a $9,700,000 financial aid package to help bolster team finances in MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 during the coronavirus pan- demic. With no racing in the pre- mier MotoGP class and only one race carried out in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, teams are missing out on the vital sponsor revenue dollars required to pay rid- ers and staff. Currently, 11 teams compete in MotoGP. This is split into the five main manufacturer (Factory) outfits: Yamaha, Honda, Ducati, Suzuki, KTM. There are another six Inde- pendent teams—Petronas SRT Yamaha, Pramac Ducati, Avintia Ducati, Tech3 KTM and Gresini Aprilia. Gresini is the factory arm of Aprilia, but has run in conjunc- tion with Fausto Gresini's squad since 2015. This is a clever way of benefitting the financial boost satellite teams gain from the promoter as written into the regulations. KTM also qualifies for Dorna's financial boost because it falls under the name of concession manufacturer, meaning it's either a new manufacturer or it hasn't won a dry race since 2013— which was before KTM made its MotoGP debut. Dorna will pay each Indepen- dent team 250,000 ($270,000), totaling 4.5m ($4,860,000) until June 2020. The full factory outfits of Monster Energy Yamaha, Repsol Honda, Ecstar Suzuki, Red Bull KTM and Mission Winnow Duca- ti, are excluded from Dorna's payout, as Dorna believes they are in a better financial position to support themselves, although this may change in the coming weeks. As for the Moto2 and Moto3 series teams, Dorna will pay out 775,000 ($836,700) for all of its Moto3 teams and 750,000 ($809,700) for its Moto2 squads, which is divided up as 25,000 ($26,900) per rider per team, with the total payout for Moto2 and Moto3 equaling 4.575m ($4,939,000). There has been no confirmed date as to when the 2020 Mo- toGP Championship will start. It is becoming increasingly unlikely the Italian MotoGP at Mugello on May 31 will signal the start of the season, with the Circuit de Bar- celona Catalunya one week after Mugello now being touted as a possible season opener. CN Dorna has enacted a MotoGP coronavirus aid package to help keep teams afloat during the pandemic.
