LOOKING BACK
It was a Suzuki sweep at the 125cc/250cc National Motocross at
Saddleback Park in 1980. Brian Myerscough, who won both 125cc
motos, was pictured on the cover. Kent Howerton went 1-2 for the 250cc-
class win... We covered the GNC Amateur National MX Championship
that was held in the Houston Astrodome. Erik Kehoe was a double-
class champion... We featured an interview with three-time National MX
Champion Broc Glover... We covered Terry Clark's win at the Prairie
Dogs Hare & Hound in Lucerne, California.

APRIL 9, 1980
Ron Gant (61) and Art Bauman (30) were pictured on the cover of Cycle
News 50 years ago. The two were competing at the AMA Road Race
National in Kent, Washington. Gant went on to win the race on his 500cc
twin-cylinder Suzuki just ahead of Yvon Duhamel and Gary Nixon... It was
a who's who of MX at Plymouth Raceway (Hangtown), where riders such as
Dick Mann, John DeSoto, Lars Larsen, Brad Lackey and Bob Grossi
came out to play. Grossi was the man of the day by winning the 500cc
Open class, winning two of the three motos.
