This past weekend, 30 years ago, Wayne
Rainey took his first victory of what
would become his first 500cc World
Championship-winning season at the
Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka. The
Japanese venue would also be the scene
of one of Rainey's greatest victories,
when, in his final 500cc season (1993),
he took the race victory, admitting
afterwards he had what he called an
out-of-body experience.
