from a bit of a cold, and didn't
make a podium interview.
"I was physically ready to go
today, but I had a little bit of a
cold this week and just didn't
feel 100%, so I was happy to get
up front there at the end," said
Kailub. "It was a tough race—I
just couldn't get going and Stew
was riding really good, but I was
making it really hard on myself
and it looked as though Kailub
would catch him, but Kailub got
stuck, as well, and had to have
assistance from another rider to
get going again.
With three turns remaining in
the race, Steward got into the
turn a little hot and drifted wide,
while Kailub dove to the inside
and came out with the lead,
winning the race by just two
seconds. It made three wins in
a row for Russell, but the seven-
On the other hand, Russell
made it hard on himself, for
sure, crashing on each lap and
having to stop for goggles at the
completion of the white-flag lap.
And rain on the final lap didn't
help matters. Kailub spent the
last two laps of the race chasing
Baylor, with both riders making
their share of mistakes and bad
line choices. At one point near
the end of the race, Steward got
stuck momentarily in a mudhole

battled Delong (342) for the XC2 Pro class win but came up a little short in fifth overall.
