IN THE WIND P28 Daytona 200 Called Off Due to Coronavirus T he Coronavirus threat reared its ugly head during the running of the 79th 2020 Daytona 200 weekend, causing the event to be postponed after the second qualifying session until October. Up until that point, Josh Herrin (Bellissi Moto/Speed Demon Yamaha YZF-R6) and Josh Hayes (MP13 Rac- ing Yamaha YZF-R6) set the pace, with the former lead- ing day one on a 1:52.300 and the latter breaking the lap record in the first qualifying session on a 1:48.638. However, Herrin's machine was found to be two pounds under the minimum weight of 355 pounds, meaning he was docked six positions in that ses- sion but his lap record would stand, according to ASRA Referee Phil Sberna. Herrin would also top the third session (qualifying two) with a 1:49.298, to head Kyle Wyman (Yamaha YZF-R6), Hayes, the returning Danny Eslick (Suzuki GSX-R600) and South African Sheridan Morias (Yamaha YZF-R6). CN Josh Herrin was flying at Daytona but didn't get the chance to take the Daytona Rolex. He'll have another shot in October. Isle of Man TT 2020 Canceled T he 2020 Isle of Man TT races, scheduled for May 30-June 13, have been canceled due to the ongoing effects of the coronavirus, marking only the second time outside of World Wars that the TT has not been run. "The decision to cancel has not been taken lightly and all options including postponement and delaying the de- cision have been considered in detail," Laurence Skelly MHK, Isle of Man Minister for Enterprise, commented. "Representatives from the Isle of Man Government will now discuss the implications with all relevant business- es, stakeholders and individuals affected by this cancel- lation, which it recognizes will be significant. "With the visitor restriction in place for the foreseeable future we wanted to make the decision now to give businesses, visitors and all involved stakeholders time to manage the impact going forward. The Isle of Man, and the Isle of Man TT, are faced with unique chal- lenges regarding Covid-19 and making this decision will provide certainty to teams, competitors, spon- sors and stakeholders of the event and to visitors across the globe. "The decision also aims to provide reassurance for our residents and healthcare professionals that the health and wellbeing of the Isle of Man's residents is the single biggest priority and focus of this Govern- ment." Cycle News' Road Test Editor Rennie Scaysbrook had been confirmed to make his TT debut for the PRF Racing team this year but will instead switch focus to the 2021 TT.
