LOOKING BACK
Speedway was the hot topic 40 years ago. We were getting ready for the
Speedway season to start... We featured an interview with 23-year-old
off-road racer Larry Roeseler... We had our coverage of the 31st Alligator
Enduro, which Ted Leimbach won riding a Kawasaki KDX175... Broc
Glover won the second night of racing at the Houston Supercross. It was
his first career Supercross win; Mike Bell won the first night... We reported
that Jimmy Weinert wanted out of his Kawasaki contract and got his wish.

We pictured the winners of the Mint 400 on the cover of Cycle News 50
years ago. For the second time in a row, Mike Patrick and Phil Bowers
won what was called at the time the "world's greatest off-road event." The
duo rode a Yamaha 360 to victory, narrowly beating out the strong duo of
Whitey Martino and Malcolm Smith... Dave Aldana out-dueled Mert
Lawwill at the Manzanita Half-Mile in Arizona.
