cross-championship potential. Tomac's never won the AMA Supercross title, and his record of results while running the red number-plate on his KX450 hasn't been all that great. He survived one round with the red plate in Ar- lington, at the Triple Crown event, and scored a win, but faltered only a week later in Atlanta, leav- ing him tied in points with Atlanta winner Roczen. Having won the Daytona Supercross three of the last four years, if Tomac struggled at Daytona this year, it could've been a sign that the pressure of winning a supercross title was catching up to him. But he didn't. After qualifying first, and finishing third in his heat race, Tomac got a mediocre start, then passed his way through the field methodically until he took the lead with just two minutes to go in the race and sped off with the win—his fifth of the series— over Roczen, who led every lap up until that point. Red Bull KTM's Cooper Webb put in a solid ride for another po- dium finish to keep himself in the championship hunt. "Tonight, it was just a little bit of patience in the beginning, be- cause the pace was hot early on," Tomac said. "And then it seemed SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 10 / MARCH 7, 2020 DAY TONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY / DAY TONA BEACH, FLORIDA P64 IIIMY OWN RACE: just got it handed to us. But it's good to be on the podium, so I'm stoked on that, and we're going to work this week, and I feel like I'm finally healed up enough to try to contend, so I'll take a podium, but I really want to get another win." 21 JASON ANDERSON 4TH 450SX Jason Anderson was in the fight all night long and ended up fourth. "The heat race went well," Anderson said. "I almost got into the lead there, but I ended up second. In the main, I got the holeshot and fell back to fourth, but I pushed forward and almost had third. It was a good race for me, and I just have to keep racing out there with the boys." The Daytona race had to have been a disappointment for Roczen, who had a big lead but was reeled in and passed by Tomac.
