SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES, AN FIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 9 / FEBRUARY 29, 2020 ATL ANTA, GEORGIA / MERCEDES-BENZ STADIUM P64 IIIMY OWN RACE: the pack. I didn't have the best start, but I've been working on them a lot. I had a decent one in the heat race, but the main event was a li le struggle. But it was crazy racing, brutal track, hard to pass, but obviously, I made a lot of passes and had a good me, and made some points probably, too, so that's cool." 1 COOPER WEBB 3RD (450SX) Cooper Webb had a scary crash a week ago in Texas and surprised a lot of people even by showing up in Atlanta. But instead of just phoning it in, he grabbed a podium finish and actually gained two points in the championship standings despite a massive hematoma on his sacrum and a banged-up elbow from land- ing on the concrete last weekend. "That was probably the hardest race I've ever had," Webb said. "But it's amazing a er I had a bad start and then stalled it, and I was way back. I just put my head down and tried to do the best I can, and I got some gi s from the guys up front, but it was painful. I had to pull out of second prac ce earlier because it was hur ng. I knew it wasn't going to be fun or easy, but that's racing, and some mes you've got to buckle up your jeans and go a er it. It's a long way out, but I had to keep it going in this championship." 250SX East The 250SX East main event was far less event- ful than the 450SX main in Atlanta. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's RJ Hampshire got the start and was quickly joined up front by Geico Honda's defending series champ Chase Sexton and Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha's Shane McElrath. McElrath actually passed Sexton for second momentarily early in the race, but Sexton and Hampshire began to distance themselves from the field early, and just before the halfway point, Sexton saw his chance to strike and took it. They slammed together for a moment, but nobody went down, and Sexton took off with the lead and the win. "It was tough," Sexton said. "It was really hard to pass out there, and the track was pretty one-lined—it had a lot of lines, but one really good line. RJ was riding pretty good, and he wasn't making any mistakes. I was kind of wait- ing for a mistake, and I decided since Shane RJ Hampshire got off to a fast start but couldn't hold off Sexton.
