IIIMY OWN RACE:
6 JEREMY MARTIN
4TH 250SX EAST (5-3-4)
By Jeremy Mar n's standards, the
Arlington Supercross was a fight all the
way and not the results he wanted.
"It was a straight struggle for me in
Dallas!" said Mar n. "I fought it all day
long with arm pump and being under
the weather with the flu. [I] wasn't
good out of the gate come me for the
night show, and with the shorter races
in the Triple Crown format, I really had
to work hard to make up ground each
moto. I was pu ng in a charge but just
didn't feel quite like myself out there.
Not stoked on a fourth overall but it
could have been worse."
off Sexton for the entire 14 laps,
while Sexton seemed happy to
hang in second, secure in the
knowledge that it would give
him the overall win on the night.
Hampshire finished third over
Martin and Marchbanks.
"Last year was nice to obvi-
ously win [the championship] but
not the way I wanted it to hap-
pen," Sexton said about losing
so many races to Austin Forkner
before Forkner was injured.
"This year, with Shane [McEl-
rath] winning that first race—he
kind of just checked out—I was
like, 'This can't happen again
this year. I've got to stop it.' And
it was really important tonight to
get a good result and to be up
here on the top step, so I got
three good starts—the first race
was a little chaotic, but I really
made the best of it and came
back to second. I'm excited to
share the red plate with Shane
next weekend."
Smith, who was in the battle
for the win in the first main event
and finished fourth, suffered
from falls in the final two mains
and ended up 13th overall on the
night.
After two rounds, Sexton and
McElrath share the champion-
ship lead, with Martin nine points
behind. CN
