Argubright's injuries weren't life-threatening,
but just that brief pause was enough to break
contact with the leaders, and he settled in for
a solo ride to third place.
That left Shirey and Wasson trading the
lead, but it came down to mistakes and Shirey
ended up making the last mistake that let
Wasson past one final time.
"This time it was more rider error because
I hit a tree and knocked my goggle lens out,
so I had no goggles for the last 30 miles,"
Shirey said. "I re-caught Joe and got right on
him, then the rocks started hitting my face and
I'm like, 'This is a long year, and it's only the
second round so I don't want to lose an eye
or anything so I'm just going to play it [smart
and think about] the championship.'" Officially,
Shirey was just three seconds behind Was-
Dalton Shirey leads
