Iannone Verdict Still Not Heard
T
he Andrea Iannone drug testing saga
is continuing with still no verdict be-
ing handed down by the International
Disciplinary Court in Switzerland that
heard his case on February 4.
Iannone tested positive to the anabolic
steroid Drostanolone at the 2019 Ma-
laysian MotoGP, which Iannone consis-
tently claims was the result of consuming
contaminated meat.
Iannone's legal defense has focused
on examining hair from his body that has
shown no traces of the banned sub-
stance, but the prosecution, headed by
Jan Stovicek, has asked for independent
judges not chosen by the board to rule
on the findings.
The court has until February 22 to
hand down its finding.
Iannone then has the option of ap-
pealing to the Court of Arbitration for
Sport, but this process would likely take
months at best and would mean the
Italian would miss multiple rounds of the
2020 MotoGP World Championship.
The prosecution is asking for the
maximum four-year suspension to be
handed to Andrea Iannone, which would
ultimately end his international racing
career. CN
