M
otorcycle publishing stalwarts Motorcycle
Consumer News has ceased publication,
after being on business for 50 years.
MCN (not the British MCN), ran a subscrib-
er-based, no advertisement publication, which
dated back to 1969 when it was originally
published as Road Rider by Roger Hull.
As the publishing platform moved into the
digital realm, MCN's subscriber-based model
proved ineffective, and the result for the mo-
torcycle industry is the loss of a truly indepen-
dent voice when it came to motorcycle testing
and industry news reports. CN
Motorcycle Consumer News has closed its doors after five decades.
Cortese Handed WorldSBK Lifeline
F
ormer Moto3 and World Supersport
Champion Sandro Cortese will be on
the WorldSBK grid this year after all, having
come to a late agreement to ride the Peder-
cini Kawasaki in place of Lorenzo Savadori.
Cortese's 2020 season was looking
shaky at best, following the news that his
services in the GRT Yamaha camp would
not be required after the team had signed
2019 World Supersport Championship
runner-up Federico Caricasulo and former
two-time MotoAmerica Supersport Cham-
pion Garrett Gerloff.
Cortese filled in for the injured Leon Cam-
ier during the Jerez and Portimao WorldSBK
tests on the Barni Racing Ducati Panigale
V4 R, but that did not lead to a second seat
in the team as hoped. Cortese's appointment to
Pedercini means he'll likely be the team's only
rider, after its second rider, Jordi Torres, was left
off the team's season entry list. CN
