ROUND 7 / FEBRUARY 15, 2020

t was just a week earlier that championship
frontrunners Eli Tomac and Ken Roczen had
some of their worst results of the season at
San Diego, but both riders bounced back at
the Tampa Supercross. It was Tomac, however,
who bounced back a little higher by captur-
ing his third win of the year, which vaulted the
Monster Energy Kawasaki Team rider into the
championship points lead for the first time this
season and since early last year, when he wore
the red plate for one race.
Despite finishing the evening on the podium,
Roczen sees his run with the red number plate
come to an end but is only four points behind
the new leader, Tomac.
Tampa marked the opening round of the 2020
250SX East series, where Shane McElrath fired
the first shot and ran off with an impressive win
that at one point of the race saw him lead the
richly talented pack, which included defend-
ing champ Chase Sexton and returning Jeremy
Martin, by a whopping six seconds. It was an
impressive first outing for McElrath on his new
Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha Team.
